Big Sea Marine Consultants & Surveyors is an Australian-owned marine consultancy business based in Airlie Beach, in the Whitsunday region of Queensland. The business is owned and operated by Guy Howard, an AMSA Accredited Marine Surveyor, marine engineer, and vessel master with more than 40 years’ experience in diesel engineering and over 25 years in the maritime industry in the Whitsundays, Queensland, throughout Australia and overseas. Locals supporting local operators.
Guy’s extensive career spans the private, commercial, and government sectors, with sea time and professional service across Australia and internationally. From engineering roles aboard private and commercial ocean-going class-built superyachts to managing new vessel construction projects and compliance for Domestic Commercial Vessels (DCVs), Guy combines hands-on technical expertise with in-depth regulatory and investigative knowledge. He has also served as a Government Shipping Inspector and Authorised Officer, conducting safety audits, complex incident investigations, and vessel compliance assessments under the National Australian and Queensland state maritime framework.
Guy is a full member of the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors and maintains ongoing Professional Development with the AIMS, currently studying their Advanced Diploma of International Ship Survey.
